“Music is therapy even when used for pure listening pleasure.

As we relax the body and mind, breathing becomes deeper and we are pulled into the music, where we become more focused and attuned to ourselves and the world around us.”

Raffaele Baldassaro (2008)

Sorry. Sorry. Sorry. (Smile)

To anyone who has enjoyed reading this blog, I apologise for the lack of updates.
Countless deadlines and a couple of gigs meant that this had to take a back seat :(

Nevertheless, I am back!

Unfortunately I don't have a story to share.
I will instead share a song that is surprisingly VERY uplifting.

Avril Lavigne - Smile

I'm not a huge fan...
But I used to listen to her when I was 15, and I love creating nostalgic experiences.
This is a new song but it reminds me of my teenage years.
The video is fairly cheesy, but I'm not gonna lie...
 - I'm a bit of a sucker for happy endings and the like :D
And this Just makes me smile. Simple :)

More stories coming soon!

"One of my favorite songs is City & Colour's 'Comin' Home'. This song reminds me to appreciate things that aren't around all the time. The emotion of the song really speaks to me."

LCDD.

For Zaruf Ezhan, a musician studying Contemporary Music Practice, LCDD by TommyHeavenly6 has not only inspired him musically but has also saved his life.

"I'd been playing guitar for years and was just playing in cover bands... and I love so many different types music. At the same time I had a really bad year and was feeling down and I heard this song, and I checked out the singer's other band its called 'The Brilliant Green'. They have great melodic pop songs, and I realized that I have a big fondness for pop melodies, and I love simple 3 chord progression songs cos I'm a huge punk rock fan AND I love 90s sounding, happy melody lines and the combination of these elements - is the type of music that I want to make. It made me realize things about me that I didn't know as well. I'm not sad, I'm not political and I'm not out there to save the world, it's just about having fun and doing what you love. So I've made my life's goal now to make good, upbeat music that's played with passion - so you can tell a lot of thought has gone into writing the songs (which is something I think is lacking these days)!!

So basically that song, and 'The Brilliant Green', are just great music with sweet sweet melodies that have really lifted me up when I was in a bad period of my life. They showed me who I was artistically, and it has also given myself something to reach for in the world. So it saved my life both literally and metaphorically."

I'd never heard of this before, but it's a cool song!
Check it out :)!

Thankyou Zaruf for sharing your song :)

Some Will Seek Forgiveness, Others Escape.

For Michael Dolan, a 20 year old Drama student, Underoath's 'Some Will Seek Forgiveness, Others Escape' reminds him of his religion...

He simply adds:

"Whenever I feel out of touch with religion I listen to it.
And feel the strength of religious beliefs again"

Again, heavily biased over here...
But I love this song ^.^

Thankyou for sharing your song, Mike! :)

Check out the song if you haven't heard it..
(I highly recommend you do!)

Heal Over.

For Hana Piranha, a student studying Music, Heal Over comforts her when faced with difficult times.

"Hi, I’m Hana and I study music at Westminster University. It’s really hard to pick one particular song that really means a lot to me, as I have so many songs I love.

However, I would say the song that has been the most useful for me in difficult and emotional situations is Heal Over by KT Tunstall. I love KT Tunstall because she’s really doing her bit for girls in the music industry – she's not only a great singer, but she's also a fantastic guitarist and songwriter.

Heal Over was written probably for one particular person, but it applies to anyone who’s going through a hard time, letting you know that everything’s eventually going to be okay and for the meantime, KT’s here to comfort you. :) I put Heal Over on whenever I'm having guy trouble or just feeling sad and it really feels like a good mate's come over with chocolate and facemasks! It’s a really beautiful, soothing song and listening to it is just like a big warm hug."

I'm a huge fan of KT Tunstall and I love all her music.
..So I'm definitely biased when I agree and say that this song is a good choice :)
& I love your description of how the song makes you feel :)
(But again, I'm biased! Aha!)

Thankyou for sharing your song, Hana! :)

Before you go/check out the song..
Make sure you check out Hana's blog HERE!
She's done a couple of sweet covers :)

Check out the song below...

Thanks for reading ^_^

Gouge Away.

For 21 year old Commercial Music Performance student Steve Goddard, 'Gouge Away' has not only inspired him to start a band but also brings back great memories.

"I don't really have a song that saved my life, but there are a couple of songs that bring back good memories and made me start writing music etc.

I am 21 and I study Music at Westminster University, and the song that brings back the best memories for me is 'Gouge Away' by The Pixies. The reason I love this song is not only is it a really great tune, it was this song that inspired me and my two best friends to start a band. I had already been playing guitar for a year at this stage, but we were all sat at my friends house getting drunk and my 2 friends decided that we should start a band and play songs like this one. So this song always brings good thoughts and memories whenever I listen to it."

(I agree this song is such a tune!)
Thankyou Steve for sharing your song! :)
